The Executioner and Her Way of Life Review (Spoiler Free) – Umai Yomu Anime Blog

For once we’re treated with a title that doesn’t completely spoil the plot.

I’ll try not to spoil anything beyond the title, and I suggest avoiding the MyAnimeList synopsis because it’s full of spoilers that ruin part of the fun.

Synopsis

What I can say is this.

There is a fantasy world that for some reason is connected to modern day Earth, and in that fantasy world, it is possible to summon people from Earth (or in this case, Japan). Why summon a regular Japanese person? Well, it turns out that people from Earth (Japan) all have some sort of latent special power that only manifests in the fantasy world.

And so we follow the journey of someone who was summoned into this world from Japan.

It’s unorthodox

I can’t write too much on this topic, but I’d say that one of the most appealing aspects of this anime is just how unorthodox it is compared to other isekai / fantasy types.

For example, normally we primarily follow the individual who has been brought to another world, but in this anime, we spend a lot of time with someone from the fantasy world itself. And as a result, we get a good understanding of their perspective, as a “non-summoned” character.

In addition, the concepts and ideas explored in The Executioner and Her Way of Life are very interesting and tend to raise questions we don’t often think about in other titles of the same genre.

Finally, I can actually say that I was satisfied with the tone of the anime, and I didn’t find it too lighthearted like I often do with anime in this genre. We get some visceral moments, questionable morals, and more along those lines. It’s great.

It’s exciting

The Executioner and Her Way of Life was anything but boring to me. I went in not knowing anything about the story aside from the title, and was pleasantly surprised with how much I was enjoying what I was watching. It’s exciting and really kept my interest.

Of course, once you get past the first few episodes, you’ll have an idea of what the anime is like and where it’s headed. So I wouldn’t say you should expect too many big surprises in that regard. But I would say that even so, the story does a good job at holding it’s own all the way ’till the end.

Rating

I’m giving The Executioner and Her Way of Life an 8.5 / 10.

It was just an unexpectedly enjoyable anime. I didn’t really know much about it, and I hadn’t even known it existed until after I’d finished several other titles from Spring 2022, but I am glad that I did take notice and give it a try.

It may not be for everyone, but for those of you who enjoy a story that has a darker tone at times, you may enjoy this. Great action, great world design, and great story. Great anime!

That does it for this one!

Until next time,
Thanks for reading.
